Important BEAD Deadline Approaching to Apply for Broadband Funding
Round 1 Submissions Due August 15

ETCOG is partnering with Halff to assist counties in preparing applications for the upcoming Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) funding opportunity. Authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, BEAD provides a historic $3.3 billion investment to expand high-speed internet across Texas.
With the official Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) released on May 15, and the sub-recipient application process beginning, now is the time for counties to prepare.
ETCOG encourages elected officials to forward this information to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) operating in their counties and to partner with them during the application process. Commercial broadband providers will be the primary applicants, but local support is essential for identifying eligible areas and strengthening applications.
Counties can begin taking action by:
- Contacting ISPs to determine interest in applying for Round 1,
- Coordinating support materials and letters of support,
- Preparing for participation in the public comment period.
ETCOG and Halff hosted an informational meeting for interested applicants on the NOFA on June 4th. The information covered in the meeting is available for download below.
More information about the BEAD program is available from the Texas Broadband Development Office.
