Air Quality Planning

We support regional air quality planning in East Texas through funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This work helps our region better understand air quality conditions, track pollution trends, analyze possible pollution sources, and support informed planning decisions.

About the Program

ETCOG conducts air quality planning activities in accordance with Rider 7 of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s legislative appropriation. Rider 7 funding supports specific technical and planning activities that help inform regional air quality work and benefit the State Implementation Plan.

At ETCOG, this work is part of our environmental services and focuses on gathering data, reviewing technical information, and developing reports that explain air quality conditions

in our region.

What we do

Under the FY 2026–2027 biennium, ETCOG is supporting PM2.5 planning activities designed to improve understanding of regional air quality conditions.

This work includes:

  • Continued monitoring
  • Data analysis
  • Emissions inventory review
  • Technical modeling

Why this matters

Air quality planning helps regional partners better understand pollution trends, identify possible contributing sources, and organize technical information into a form that supports practical decision-making.

By combining monitoring, emissions inventory data, analysis, and modeling, we help provide a clearer picture of PM2.5 conditions in East Texas. This work can support long-range planning and improve understanding of how local and outside sources may affect regional air quality.

Current Air Quality Reports

Through our contractor, ETCOG prepares air quality reports to document technical work completed under this program and provide findings and recommendations.
