The East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) and the City of Longview are proud to announce joint efforts to host an Environmental Enforcement Workshop in Longview, on June 6-7, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Maude Cobb Convention Center.
ETCOG is the state-designated organization for municipal solid waste planning in East Texas. We serve as a central point of contact for solid waste management outreach, education, and training for its 14-county region.
The workshop aims to increase the capacity of local communities to learn about the regulatory requirements related to environmental enforcement, best practices, and tools available to promote compliance, address non-compliance, and investigate and resolve violations. In addition, the ETCOG Economic Development team will also present its new report illegal dumping reporting website, highlighting its user-friendly navigation, reporting, management tools, and available resources.
“This is a great opportunity for regional solid waste management professionals to receive professional development to strengthen their efforts for their respective communities in East Texas. I also look forward to showcasing the new app staff has developed for the reporting of illegal dumping across the region. This feature will enhance the capabilities of identifying and resolving violations,” said ETCOG’s Community and Economic Development Manager, Chuck Vanderbilt.
The workshop is a two-day training, but participants can attend one or both workshops they believe will benefit. Participants are eligible to earn CEUs during this workshop.
The workshop is free to attend for eligible participants, which include city and county staff who have overall environmental enforcement responsibilities, local code enforcement officers, registered sanitarians, local peace officers, local health department officers, Local health authorities, specialized environmental enforcement officers, fire marshals, and firefighters, prosecutors, as well as other city and county staff, and elected officials needing a good understanding of the approaches available to assure a clean and pollutant-free community.
