Housing East Texas announces a 30 day open application period for persons with disabilities in need of accessibility modifications to be served through the 2010 Amy Young Barrier Removal Program. Housing East Texas has been allocated $225,000 to serve a minimum of fifteen clients in Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, and Rusk Counties whose household incomes do not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The application period opens August 23, 2010, and will close on September 24, 2010.
The program provides one time grants for home modifications specifically needed for accessibility such as wheelchair ramps, lowered cabinets, flashing lights, etc. Due to limited funding, applications will be competitively scored. Funds are targeted to allow for reasonable accommodation or modification for homeowners or a member of their household with disabilities needing assistance to fully access their home.
